The Federal Sixth

A unique and outstanding learning and social environment for our older students

We are very proud of our Federal Sixth Form, in partnership with Helenswood Girls School, which provides a unique and outstanding learning and social environment for our older students, emphasising the importance which we attach to this stage of further education.

We provide for those wishing to gain entry to University, for those embarking upon a career and for those who have yet to make a firm decision about their future.

We aim to make our students increasingly self-reliant and responsible for their studies within an ethos which is highly supportive and encouraging.

Our Sixth Form students gain entry to the best Universities in the Country, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Students Celebrate Record A Level Results for 2010

Federal 6th Form Students will be celebrating this week with a 99% A Level pass rate, with 5% of students celebrating achieving the sought after A* grade. This is the best ever outcome for students and a phenomenal achievement. It is testament to the collaboration between students, teachers and the pastoral support team that this year will see students beating off the increased competition in the race for top university places.

Elizabeth Read will be awaiting confirmation of her place at Cambridge to read Natural Sciences with her A* and another four A grades besides! Her success is shared by five other students all of whom achieved straight A* and A grades: Andrew Bunt, Catherine Jeffries, Greg Page, Jessica Potts and James Green.  More than 100 6th Form students will be looking forward to heading off to their first choice universities. Students have demonstrated excellent progress, particularly those aspiring to the most competitive universities and therefore the highest grades.

The 6th Form offers students from all local schools a centre for A Level excellence: from the Extended Project with 60% of students achieving A* and A grades; to 55% of all students studying A Level Graphics recording an A* or A grade; 23% of all students studying Art A Level achieving A*; 66% of all A Level Dance students achieving top grades; 25% of PE students achieving an A*; and 100% of BTEC Children Care and Development students achieving distinction – the equivalent of A grades.

A key to their success was the thorough approach to coursework and exam preparation in Year 13. The excellent attitude and efforts of the students was underpinned by the hard work and focused dedication of their teachers and support staff. These results represent a great improvement on last year’s results and are set to ensure that a record number of students from the Hastings and St Leonards area head on towards university life.

Lucy Monk (Headteacher at Helenswood School) and John Court (Headteacher at William Parker Sports College) congratulated students as they received their results this morning: ‘The class of 2010 have demonstrated that a sharp focus on excellence has reaped rewards for all. Congratulations are due to each and every student for their wonderful outcomes and we wish them every success as they move into their next phase of education!”
