New Sports Hall

Progress with the Building

We are building a sports and gymnastics centre in partnership with Hollington Gym club. The hall can be divided into a 4 court general area, a 2 court area with sprung floor and a raised area with sunken pits, tumble and fast tracks.

The centre would be used by other schools in the local Sports Partnership because many have no suitable areas of their own for gymnastics

William Parker has links with Hollington Gym club at both junior and senior levels. Hollington gym club currently boasts the national tumbling champion, who is also a William Parker student, as well as five silver medallists from the national championships.

This is an amazing achievement especially when you realise that there is currently no facility of national standard anywhere within this region. There are no facilities that can boast training to full F.I.G. standard for tumbling, or with a sprung floor to train on with suitable overhead clearance for national level gymnastics.

As a sports college we are always looking at increasing our offering and specialisms.  We are seeking to develop an additional sport at William Parker, to fully utilise the new facility, and the obvious choice was gymnastics. Our current gymnastics provision lacks facilities, but students enjoy the small parts they can do. Tumbling and acrobatic gymnastics are an ideal additional sport and are well received by boys especially.

This project has been designed and built by Directline Structures Ltd of Ashford.

EQUIPMENT FUNDRAISING

The dedicated gymnastics facility alongside a new 4 court hall will dramatically change the sporting provision for all Hastings students, especially for those at a specialist sports college.

We are now fundraising to kit out the gymnastics centre, we need to raise £60,000  for equipment, and building materials to build the raised pitted areas. This will include the installation of the sprung floors, tumble tracks and overhead rigs. If you would like to make a donation towards the equipment fund, or your company may be able to offer sponsorship either in kind or financial towards equipment then we would love to hear from you, and can mark larger pieces of equipment with names and provide advertising to sponsors. Parents can contribute through parentpay – or by sending a cheque to the College marked new sportshall appeal, for further information or corporate donations please contact David Evans, Business Manager on 01424 448222 or david.evans@williamparker.e-sussex.sch.uk
