Eastenders star opens new Food Technology Suite

Eastender’s star Nina Wadia swapped Albert Square for William Parker Sports College to open a new high-tech Food Technology Suite on Tuesday.
The soap star was on hand to unveil the recently completed food technology facilities, meet some of the budding Jamie Olivers set to use them and sample their food.
She also met school cooks from across 1066 Country who have completed the School Food Trust ‘Feast’ training programme, and signed armfuls of autographs.
“I am just here for the food” she joked. “My tenuous connection is that I play a catering manager in Eastenders I think. Sometimes when I have to eat on screen with Nitin (who plays husband Masood), I like to add an extra chilli to everything and watch his face. It’s great fun”.
Having been shown round the new facilities, she said: “It looks absolutely gorgeous, and I think it’s really exciting for the college. In my day home economics classrooms looked nothing like this. It is so important to get young people, especially boys, interested in food from an early age”.
Headteacher, John Court, also welcomed the opening and praised Longcross Construction for battling through a difficult snow-hit project.
“We have never had food technology facilities here and I have to tell you the boys absolutely love it. It is brilliant to go from having no facilities to having these two new classrooms. This subject will grow right across the college and my only fear is that we will have to build two more classrooms in the next few years”.
